NO SIGNAL

Exhibition by Wisit Techasirikosol

31 October - 22 November 2026

If the intention of communication is neglected, the concrete may ultimately transform into the abstract. Number 1 Gallery, in collaboration with artist Wisit Techasirikosol, presents the exhibition "NO SIGNAL," exploring the relationship between 'symbols' and 'meanings' through shapes inspired by traffic signals. These signals, created by humans to establish rules and regulations, guide directions, dictate movements, and foster mutual understanding in public spaces. However, the messages they attempt to convey are often overlooked, causing their meanings to waver. The conflict between shapes that seem to control everything, as if creating a frame and defining boundaries, while the inner space is replaced with abstract images filled with masses of color that hide some meanings in ways we are accustomed to seeing on the streets, along with traces of scratching, overlapping, and unregulated movement. Under the narrative told through deliberate arrangement, we are prompted to stop and consider the meanings we overlook or choose to interpret differently from what they should be, creating space to question: when the signal remains but its meaning is not conveyed, are we seeing a 'signal' or just a 'shape'? “NO SIGNAL” does not mean the absence of a signal, but rather a moment when the signal still appears before us, yet we can no longer perceive, interpret, or choose to follow it.
