Number1Gallery proudly presents “Facade” , by three of Number 1 Gallery’s most talented painters In Facade, painters are brought together for the shared capability of their portraiture. Each artist utilises their own idiosyncratic facial representations as metaphors for personal psychologies, with implications to broader societal referencing and the consequences of man’s self-serving actions.
he scratched, layered patina of Jirasak Plaboothong’s intense facial studies imbue the archaic, suggesting a collectivised knowledge of man through the ages, but that such wisdom should be weighed carefully. Trapped within self-indulgent recesses of the mind, Chalermpon Ratanakomonwat’s twisted studies paint a tormented picture of inner anguish, indicating the destructive nature of delusional obsessions.
theatrical penumbra of light and shadow, the superficial tranquility of female painter Karuna Panumes’ deceptively seductive self-portraits, are suggestive of inner darkness and the elusive attainment of spiritual calm. Within the historical context of portrait painting and against a growing proliferation of digitised facial imaging propounded through social media, the three artists manifest highly individual self-expressions to ponder the complexities facing Thai society at this pivotal juncture.
