For his third solo exhibition artist Wutigorn Kongka, a lecturer at King Mongkut Institute of Technology Latkrabang (KMITL), presents his latest series of statuesque acrylic canvases that are testament to the continuing vitality of painting as a medium.
In Naked, Wutigorn strips bare the veil of the modern human condition into a fanciful composite construct of our primal physical and psychological preoccupations. Now in his forties, a more contemplative and content artist unravels the subconscious lucidity of dreams, discovering romantic notions to gender relationships, sexual chemistry, power and control.
Drawing inspiration from the physiology of human iconographic representations, Wutigorn finds aesthetic commonality in ancient Greco-Roman statuary and antique Khmer sculpture, as well as more contemporary associations to Damien Hirst’s anatomical giant, and Lucien Freud’s painterly figuration.
