Home-Sawan Umansap (A.K.A. Nai-Kong), born in 1982 in the countryside of Chumpae district, in Khon Kaen province. Home-sawan had discovered his own appetite in art since he met Mr.Boonlear Laoporn, his very first art teacher in junior high school. With his teacher’s great support and guidance, Home-sawan had been practicing art ever since. Unfortunately, his family quite disagreed with his single-minded plan to become an artist.
To pursuit degree in Fine Art, he even ran away to Bangkok to study at College of Fine Art, at Ladkrabang. It took his family around a few years to open up to the path he’d chosen. Then, Home-sawan had continued his bachelor’s and master’s degree at the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphics, Silpakorn University respectively. Right after he’d received his Master’s degree in 2008, he had an opportunity to launch his first solo exhibition ‘Life’at National Gallery, Bangkok. Home-sawan had been working as a lecturer in the universities for a few years before reconsidered his career path and made a very big move to
become a full-time artist as he always wanted to be.
Home-sawan painting these subjects by using Chinese brush stroke like Zen Art. It got along very well with the technique and style the folk artisan used in the primitive mural paintings or banners (Pa Pra-Bot) in Isan region. With this combination, he’s developed his own signature which he’s called ‘Contemporary Isan Folk Art’.
