Rodklongtan (b. 1974)
Chatchawan
Rodklongtan’s practice explores faith, Buddhist
philosophy, and the search for spiritual understanding. Across an evolving
visual language—from contemplative abstraction to figurative and mythological
imagery—his works examine the relationship between visible form and the inner
conditions of human existence.
In his
earlier paintings, light, shadow, architectural openings, and textured surfaces
created meditative spaces suggesting passages between birth, death,
enlightenment, and the path of Dharma. These restrained compositions
transformed light into a symbol of awareness emerging from darkness.
His recent
works engage more directly with figures drawn from Buddhist teachings,
mythology, deities, and Thai cultural belief. Despite this shift in form,
Chatchawan’s practice remains centred on
impermanence, moral reflection, and the distinction between outward appearances
and the deeper truths concealed within them.
