Jessada Kongsommart (b. 1975)

Jessada Kongsommart’s practice moves between painting and sculpture, drawing upon the landscapes, material culture, and rhythms of everyday life in Northeastern Thailand. Familiar objects, birds, plants, seeds, vessels, and woven patterns become visual forms through which he reflects on memory, belonging, and the relationship between people and their surroundings.

His paintings often transform regional objects and natural forms into quiet, symbolic compositions. Layers of colour, repeated marks, and textile-like structures evoke the surfaces of local craft while allowing recognisable imagery to move toward abstraction. In his sculptures, clay and wood are assembled into delicately balanced forms that suggest growth, coexistence, and the fragile equilibrium of life.

Through The Countryside Story and Pattern from Isaan, presented at Number 1 Gallery in 2008 and 2017, Jessada connects personal memory with the broader cultural landscape of Isan. His works preserve neither tradition nor rural life as fixed images; instead, they allow familiar forms to evolve into reflections on continuity, transformation, and the enduring presence of place.

เจษฎา คงสมมาตร (เกิด พ.ศ. 2518)

เจษฎา คงสมมาตร สร้างสรรค์ผลงานทั้งจิตรกรรมและประติมากรรม โดยหยิบยกภูมิทัศน์ วัฒนธรรมทางวัตถุ และจังหวะชีวิตประจำวันของภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือมาเป็นพื้นฐานของการทำงาน สิ่งของใกล้ตัว นก พืช เมล็ดพันธุ์ ภาชนะ และลวดลายจากงานทอ กลายเป็นรูปทรงทางทัศนศิลป์ที่ใช้พิจารณาความทรงจำ ความผูกพัน และความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์กับสภาพแวดล้อม

ผลงานจิตรกรรมของเขามักเปลี่ยนสิ่งของพื้นถิ่นและรูปทรงจากธรรมชาติให้กลายเป็นองค์ประกอบเชิงสัญลักษณ์อันสงบนิ่ง ชั้นสี ร่องรอยซ้ำ และโครงสร้างคล้ายสิ่งทอ ชวนให้นึกถึงพื้นผิวของงานหัตถกรรมท้องถิ่น พร้อมพาภาพที่คุ้นเคยเคลื่อนไปสู่ความเป็นนามธรรม ขณะที่ผลงานประติมากรรมซึ่งสร้างจากดินและไม้ ถูกประกอบขึ้นเป็นรูปทรงที่วางตัวอย่างละเอียดอ่อน สื่อถึงการเติบโต การอยู่ร่วมกัน และสมดุลอันเปราะบางของชีวิต

ผ่านนิทรรศการ The Countryside Story และ Pattern from Isaan ซึ่งจัดแสดง ณ Number 1 Gallery ในปี พ.ศ. 2551 และ 2560 เจษฎาเชื่อมโยงความทรงจำส่วนบุคคลเข้ากับภูมิทัศน์ทางวัฒนธรรมของอีสาน ผลงานของเขามิได้เก็บรักษาประเพณีหรือชีวิตชนบทไว้ในฐานะภาพที่หยุดนิ่ง หากเปิดให้รูปทรงอันคุ้นเคยแปรเปลี่ยนเป็นการพิจารณาความต่อเนื่อง ความเปลี่ยนแปลง และการดำรงอยู่ของสถานที่ภายในความทรงจำ
