Kriangkrai Kongkhanun (b.
1980)
Kriangkrai
Kongkhanun works primarily through printmaking, woodcut, and mixed media,
creating dense monochromatic worlds inhabited by animals, hybrid creatures, and
organic forms. Intricate black lines, repeated textures, and restrained accents
of red create a tension between vitality and decay, beauty and unease.
Drawing upon
Buddhist symbolism and Western artistic traditions, his practice examines
desire, violence, spiritual conflict, and humanity’s unstable
relationship with nature. Spiritual Disease, Oceanic Wilderness, and Undead—presented
with Number 1 Gallery between 2010 and 2013, including at ART HK 11—trace the
development of his distinctive visual language.
