Other Myths

Exhibition by Thanakan Klannakorn

3 - 25 October 2026

The meanings of objects, images, and symbols are not universal. They develop within specific social, historical, and cultural contexts. As a result, the same object may be remembered through different narratives and linked to beliefs or truths that do not always align. As stories move across images, languages, time, and geography,
local conditions shape how people interpret, alter, or diminish their meanings. A single myth can branch into
multiple versions of truth, with no single account serving as a complete original or permanent center.

Number 1 Gallery proudly presents the exhibition “Other Myths” by Thanakan Klannakorn. This exhibition treats myth as a space where multiple meanings interact and negotiate. Images and narratives from different contexts are layered and rearranged, creating new relationships that blur the lines between history and imagination, belief and fact, and the familiar and unfamiliar. Each work does not fully represent a single myth. Instead, it creates a space where multiple narrative strands coexist, preserving the seams, tensions, and differences between meanings from various cultures.

Other Myths refers to narratives outside dominant accounts and also questions how distinctions between the “dominant” and the “other” are made. It asks who has the authority to decide which stories are remembered,
which are accepted as truth, and which are pushed to the margins.

In this space, truth is not a fixed conclusion but remains in constant movement and transformation. “Other Myths” invites us to consider how familiar images may hold multiple overlapping narratives, and how each act of looking can begin to construct myth anew.
